The way to welcome traditional New Year of Asia countries

Each country has different customs to welcome Tet Holiday, such as, Thailand people always throw water together to get lucks, Chinese people eat foods with the meaning of longevity and Vietnamese people clean their houses, buy salt, and go to pagoda to pray luckiness and happiness for their family.


China
Lunar New Year of China is the time to gather all members of a family to show their respects to ancestors. Many customs will be implemented by Chinese people with the hope of lucks. Before Lunar New Year comes, they will have paid all debts to start a new year without debt. A week before Tet, a man in the family will make sacrifice kitchen god. Foods to sacrifice the god are mainly sweet and sticky foods, especially malt to satisfy the god and fuse the god’s mouth. By the way, he cannot say bad things which bring unlucky events for their family. People often buy new clothes to wear in New Year. Houses are cleaned and the children are received lucky money. People often wish good and new things for a new year and eat longevity foods together like noodle, fish and cake made from sticky rice and sugar to hope a rich and sweet life.

Vietnam
Vietnamese people often welcome Tet Holiday with interesting customs with the most important thing is a positive attitude for a new year. Vietnamese people believe that what they say, what they do and what they believe in 3 first days of New Year will represent for events in their life in a year. Therefore, it is not surprising when you always meet smiling faces of locals, generous gifts and lucky money for old people and children.

Before Tet, house will be cleaned, old debts will be paid and children will be bought new clothes to have a new and positive start for a new year. Vietnamese people often buy jams, teas, fruits and wine to wish their relatives and friends.
