The fall of the obelisk of the memorial to the Soviet soldiers-liberators of Riga was shown from the air and from the ground by the local police. The day before, on August 25, the object was completely demolished.

The bill to demolish the memorial in the former Soviet republic was approved at the end of May. Work started on 23 August. By Tuesday evening, all three sculptures of Soviet soldiers had been demolished. The next day, Motherland was pushed off the pedestal; when it fell, it split.
