UN member-states on Thursday declared that the destruction by jihadists of Iraqi cultural sites may amount to war crimes and agreed to take steps to curb the trade of stolen ancient artifacts.
Footage
released by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) showed the ruins
of Syria’s Palmyra untouched as the militant group claimed it only
destroy statues which it deems polytheistic, the Guardian newspaper
reported on Wednesday.
