The mayor of the French city of Cannes David Lisner issued a decree forbidding women to wear on the beaches of so called «burkini» — a bathing suits covering the whole body from head to toe, popular mainly among the Muslim women.

The mayor stated that the access to the beaches is permitted only to those wearing appropriate clothing, respecting the secular nature of France. Lesnar stressed that the wearing of clothing denoting religious affiliation in that time, as France faced terror, may cause disturbances in public places.

Thierry Migul’, the representative of the municipality explained that it is not banning the wearing of religious symbols at the beach. The new decree applies only to clothing that is associated with a sympathetic relationship to the terrorists declared war on France, he said.

The mayor’s Executive order came into force at the end of July, but has attracted media attention only at the end of this week. According to Migulya, violations of the ban over the past two weeks was not.

This week at the water Park in Les-Pennes-Mirabeau under Marseille has been cancelled the event, intended only for participants in the burqini. The reason was the threat to the organizers.
