Over 300,000 refugees without asylum in Germany

More than 300,000 refugees currently living in Germany have not yet submitted an application for asylum as the German authorities are overloaded, German media Focus Online reported on Thursday.

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) had to stop issuing new appointments for lodging an application for asylum to refugees in its need, Hans-Eckhard Sommer, head of the Bavarian ministry of interior in asylum law, was quoted as saying.

Sommer also referred to piles of 328,000 unresolved asylum applications in BAMF, saying that "this is an intolerable situation".

Earlier this month, party leaders of Germany's ruling coalition have agreed on plans to establish special registration centers for refugees in Germany, with an aim to speed up asylum procedures for those who have little chance to get asylum.
