European border restrictions endanger refugees, migrants, especially children, UN agencies warn

European restrictions on refugees and migrant movements after last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris, including national profiling, are endangering many, especially children, as the bite of winter takes hold, United Nations agencies warned today, calling on Governments to provide more reception centres and decent accommodation.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on September 29 that it estimates that about 522 000 migrants and refugees have arrived in Europe by sea since the beginning of 2015.
