ILO plans to eradicate child labor in Myanmar

International Labor Organization is planning to eradicate child labor in Myanmar by running a pilot project next year, according to military-run daily on Saturday.

The four-year model pilot project will be implemented in three areas -- Yangon and Ayeyarwady regions as well as Mon state, focusing on over 3,600 children and their family members, said the Myawady Daily.

Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security in cooperation with ILO is compiling a report on child labor which is to be released in November.

Most of the child laborers, mostly from poverty-stricken families are employed at teashops in big cities like Yangon and Mandalay.
