Hamas Criticizes PA for Resumption of Security Cooperation with Israel

A Hamas spokesman criticized the Palestinian Authority (PA) for resumption of security cooperation with the Israeli regime, saying it would endanger Palestinian unity.

“Hamas is surprised of the PA’s resumption of security coordination and cooperation with the Zionist regime,” the Palestinian resistance movement’s spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, said in a statement released on Thursday.

He described the move as a grave danger to the Palestinian people, its unity and its legitimate rights including the right to resist the occupation, according to the Lebanon-based Arabic-language al-Mayadeen TV network.

It quoted PA Police Chief Hazem Atallah as saying on Wednesday that all branches of the PA security forces fully restored security cooperation with Israel two weeks ago.

In July, PA President Mahmoud Abbas announced that security coordination with the Tel-Aviv regime was halted in response to Israel’s placement of metal detectors near the entrances to the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Hamas and the West Bank based Fatah reached a national reconciliation deal in October to end a decade-long split following talks mediated by Egypt in Cairo.
