Hungary's EU Refugee Quota Referendum Fails Because of Low Turnout

The Hungarian referendum on the EU migrant resettlement quota failed Sunday due to the turnout of 45 percent with the required minimum of 50 percent, Vice President of ruling party Fidesz, Gergely Gulyas, said.

The majority of voters, some 95 percent, rejected the quota, Gulyas added, as quoted by Hungarian broadcaster MTVA.

The ballot asked if the Hungarians wanted the European Union to be able to resettle non-citizens into the country without consulting the national parliament.
