Buddha Purnima 2023: India's devotees gather to wash sins away

-
Thousands of devotees gathered at the Ganges river in Prayagraj for Buddha Purnima to wash away their sins and attain blessings through a traditional dip.

The festival marks the birthday of Gautama Buddha and is observed across India with ceremonies, gatherings, and meditation. Although the date and time of Lord Buddha’s birth and death are uncertain, the assumptions are that he lived between 6th and 4th century BC.

Buddha Purnima 2023 is celebrated on May 5th to commemorate the 2585th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, also known as Mahatma Buddha.
